But what about socialization?!
In this deeply personal episode, we go beyond the myth and talk about how to curate the best possible social experiences for your kid at every developmental stage.
If you’ve been following me for a while, you’ve seen I produce a lot of content. So, I hope you’ll pay attention when I say that this latest podcast episode on socialization, I believe, is the most important work I’ve produced to date.
So many families have told me over the years that they would love to homeschool…if it weren’t for socialization.
The “anti-social weird homeschooler” myth is EASY to debunk!
The vast majority of homeschoolers lead profoundly social lives, and even more so with the massive growth of homeschooling communities we’ve seen in recent years.
But what if we move beyond the myth?
We talk a lot about socialization vs no socialization.
We think socialization is just “friends or no friends.”
But we rarely talk about the quality of socialization we want our children to receive.
I believe that socialization is an absolutely vital component of building an effective education for our children, that nurtures their intellect, supports their mental health and sets them up to make an impact in their community. Play supports cognitive development, problem-solving, collaboration and so much more.
So, instead of asking "But what about socialization?”
What if we asked:
“How can we curate the best possible socialization for our kids? Whether they’re homeschooling, in school, or pre-school?”
In this deeply personal episode, I talk about optimizing socialization at every developmental stage, my own experience with socialization in school and out of school, and how I make friends and build community as an adult.
