Intellectual rigor, flexibility, encouraging independent research, hands-on learning and travel are key components to be a rock star homeschool parent.

Recently, I saw a great post on Reddit asking homeschoolers what their parents got "right" about homeschooling. There were wonderful comments reflecting my own ideas on how to homeschool successfully. I summarized the main takeaways and want to share them with you.

  1. Emphasizing Intellectual Rigor: Many parents prioritized a challenging curriculum that included subjects like formal logic, Latin, and advanced math. For example, one homeschooler recounted how they were expected to diagram sentences, memorize the states and capitals, and do flashcards for math. This rigorous approach helped them excel when they transitioned to public school.

  2. Encouraging Independent Research: Parents encouraged their children to look
